Artist Statement
The artist I am created a palette, a color/temperature scale, and a block design pattern. The scientist I am recorded daily high and low temperatures, and learned that the coldest time of day is 3:00 – 4:00 a.m. The two met in this piece of art.
Each colorful block represents the high and low temperature of a day in 2022, measured at the Oakland International Airport weather station. The temperature scale maps onto the color scale in varying increments where red represents 90 degrees Fahrenheit and above, and violet represents 39 degrees and below. Grey blocks separate months and seasons. French knots denote the weather: sunny, grey, or rain.
