This collage is constructed from hundreds of shapes hand cut from colored paper. I use titanium blade scissors, colored acid-free pastel drawing paper, and acrylic gel medium to adhere the pieces to the surface. I have always worked with paint and desired the saturation and richness of color from oil but without the drying time. The paper process is endlessly additive and allows me to physically manifest my ideas more quickly. Collage has become my language for expressing my anxiety surrounding climate change and the human impact on the environment. This piece envisions a future in which wildlife adapt to the trash and junk food humans leave behind after our own self destruction.
