Artist Statement
Through my explorations of history and memory, I study the passage of experience from lived to remembered, memorialized, and forgotten. My practice draws on historical source material, journals, letters, and texts to convey personal stories and perspectives. Love and memory are the weft and warp of my work.
In my works on WW1, I delve into the impact of war on individuals as well as the stark moments of beauty and calm experienced during its course. This series of quilted aerial reconnaissance photographs is inspired by an officer in the Royal Flying Corps who devised a novel strategy to help his night bombing squadron navigate the inky dark of a pre-electrified Europe.
