Artist Statement
As a Japanese-American artist, this artwork symbolize past racial injustices as represented by the forced closure and evacuation of the Japanese family who maintained the Japanese Tea Garden in the San Francisco Golden Gate Park during WWII. This piece also speaks to the current wave of anti-Asian hate and other groups being suppressed.
