I was raised in New Jersey and New York City to a mixed family of Armenians from Turkey and Jews from what is now Ukraine. My latest abstract painting series touches on the struggle to find roots in a land that does not belong to you, but having no country to return to. Through patterning, movement and texture I try to recreate the turmoil but also the beauty in the every day struggle of belonging. I use the language of abstraction to express my diaspora experience as both an Armenian and a Jew. Finding ways to preserve both cultures within a world that wants to erase it.
