Ecological grief and climate anxiety have been my focus for a decade. "Water Safety/Rescue Buoy" is a project addressing climate change—rising waters, collective action, and caring for beloved communities (plant, non-human, human). Etched mirror drawings are made on the reverse side of mirrors, informed by a 1930s Red Cross water rescue handbook. Text beneath the surface reveals instructions for water rescue. My work is about our work as world citizens—maintenance, nurturing, caretaking, uplifting life—our instinctual imperative to act for other living beings and the planet as we adapt to an unknown future, to take political action to mitigate and respond to unprecedented global catastrophe.
