Artist Statement
"SWEET WILLOW" depicts a central willow tree flanked by willow tendrils in the background. This acrylic painting with collage and colored pencil is painted on book pages from "Braiding Sweetgrass" by the naturalist writer: Robin Wall Kimmerer. The text from the book pages is visible both in the unpainted portions of the work, as well as in the collaged elements on the surface. The willow symbolizes nature, love and life. the underlying book pages of Kimmerer's book informs us about the Native American philosophy towards nature, love and life. Her revelations are written like prose from a poem. The willow's lacy leaves evoke poetry.
