In 2021, I painted “La Ocha” as a way to record a dizzy memory of a ceremony I was part of while visiting Cuba. My vision for this piece was inspired by the hazy mix of emotions and the overstimulation of my senses during this ceremony. Through this piece I hope to communicate a feeling and memory so that it’s never forgotten. Over the past few years my paintings have been a page in my diary that document my life altering experiences, and this has challenged me artistically more than ever. Exploring painting in this way has been very cathartic and gratifying.
