I have been observing and documenting my neighborhood’s geometry through quilting—how the water tower appears flat against the blue horizon, buildings vanish into the fog, and power lines frame the sky. As a printmaker, I appreciate the methodical and contemplative process of making quilts and the way it lends itself to straight lines and simple shapes. I explore how the soft tactile quality of fabrics contrast with the geometry of buildings and power lines. Each work begins with a drawing—I scale and outline it, modifying the piecing as I go, placing fine details next to large expanses of solid fabric. Once the composition is resolved, I quilt it to emphasize the geometric structures.
