Artist Statement
Frida Calvo Huerta is a Mexican multi-disciplinary artivist. She immigrated with her family when she was nine years old and grew up in San Francisco. She initially used photography as a tool to control her narrative as a high school student activist by documenting her social movement involvement in immigrant rights & climate justice. Her femtors & community have supported her in navigating the chaotic sociopolitical climate and channeling her experiences and visionary imagination into art that envisions a healing & thriving future. Her art preserves wonder, hope, joy & happiness by reconnecting with her Mexican culture, exploring her identity, and capturing the essence of family & community.
