Artist Statement
My artwork pays homage to the fiber art of our forebears but does not try to replicate it. I create textiles by weaving together commonplace objects, using the source materials to provide a new layer of meaning. Most recently I have been exploring the relationship between visual art and music by using parts of musical instruments in my art. In this piece, I used only recycled piano wires, which I partially un-wound and tied together into a tapestry. Music and visual art are intricately intertwined, sharing elements such as harmony, balance, rhythm and repetition. In my tapestries, I try to echo the beauty, joy and movement of music in order to unlock emotions and trigger memories.
