This abstract, minimalist quilt delights in the strict geometries of the Bauhaus movement while its vibrant, saturated colors add eye-catching sizzle. Continuous spiral quilting lines (sewn on a hand-guided home machine) both contrast with, and call attention, to the quilt's many different, contiguous shapes. The quilt pays homage to the exuberant mosaic tile art of Brazilian artist Athos Bulcão (1918–2008), whose work graces buildings throughout Brasília.
