Still photographs have the ability to imprint into our collective memories. Successful visual storytelling not only has the strength to educate, it has the power to compel us to feel, to think carefully and to take action. My intention has always been to elevate the voices of others with visuals. Creating a counter image of female stereotypes and reinforcing positive representation of my culture as a Mexican American.
My work “La Cena'' represents my personal journey of identity as an artist, as a photojournalist and my passion for representation and inclusivity. These are not your stereotypical virtues of domesticity and motherhood but a re-envisioned visual language of Latines and Mexica.
