This painting is a salute to mothers & a tribute to my mother in particular. They feed us, nurture us, care for and love us – that’s a whole lotta work. As part of their duties they all seem to dish out pithy axioms – “A watched pot never boils.” - “That ship has sailed.” - “Patience is a virtue.” - “Never end a sentence with a preposition.” - “Never draw to an inside straight.” Important stuff to help us match wits with the ever present slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. Oh, and don’t forget this rhetorical query: “If all your friends jumped off a bridge, would you?” And there’s the classic which I have to use more often than I like to admit: “Pardon my French!”
