“Top of the Heap” is the most recent painting of my “Doll Series.” Dolls became my subject during the quarantine period of the Covid epidemic. I was able to express some of the isolation, sadness and helplessness we found ourselves in at that time through painting the dolls I had collected, which I found discarded on the streets of my neighborhood. Over time I added some found stuffed animals to the imagery. As conditions gradually bettered my color has become lighter and more intense the paint looser. I see in this painting a sense that the worst has passed and we have come out hopefully on top of things, at least for the moment.
