Throughout history birds have been metaphors for the journey of the soul after death, and they have acted as tricksters and oracles, mediators and symbols of wisdom. I respond to the way they move, floating above tension, and how they flock in a dynamic dance while maintaining individuality. This piece was made during a time when discord and violence in my external and internal worlds were colliding and a predatory mindset was affecting my life. The world requires the predator. Ecosystems crash without them, and yet they are unwelcome or unwanted in our daily lives for very good reason. There is a tense balance between the predator and prey, and a very fragile line that connects them both.
