i examine how we perceive and experience nature by composing and exposing natural elements in unexpected ways. i am interested in getting the viewer to see nature differently, to consider the other realities that exist outside our human-centered view of ourselves, our societies, and our cultures to reflect on what is lost when the other-than-human is not afforded reckoning, or worse, obliterated without regard. lithic dust explores my interest with the color, texture, and materiality of stone and stone’s distinction in one class of geography—in this series 1, deserts. in using stone in various states of pulverization to create an exposure, i seek to release the stories held within the rock.
