After a long walk with my father from the Ferry Building to Crissy Field during the pandemic, I took the scenic way home and stopped by Ocean Beach. The late afternoon sun lit up the ocean in a golden glow. As I stood there watching the light in the waves, a mother and daughter came up the sandy dune hill right in front of me. The girl didn't have a mask on, and the mom said it was OK to take a photo. The photo was taken, we smiled and that was that. I rediscovered the photo about a year later and had to paint it. This painting took about a year of layers and glazing.
