Artist Statement
My eye, like many people’s, focuses on what it finds mysterious and beautiful. Thresholds and ambiguities. Meetings of past and present, interior and exterior. The historical legacy and contemporary life of American cities is the main focus for my work. I am interested in how people live - the objects they use, the way they decorate space (and themselves), the impressions they leave, the secrets they wish to keep to themselves. Otto Dix believed that a world was contained in the folds of his subject’s clothes, their ears, their hands, their attitude. The exterior is always a glittering and strange reflection of the interior. Cities appeal to the voyeur in me.
