Through field study ("outsider artist" interviews) and photo-based mixed-media sculpture, I investigate the way identity is constructed and reassembled during socialization, challenge the ideas of social norms, and celebrate self-determining identity under capitalism. The subject usually intertwines with my immigration experiences and the pressure of being part of the disappearing middle class. I use my fabric to represent the negotiation between individuals and society. With the combination of photography, mesh-like printable fabric, and plaster, I create a novel visual language that represents this distorted eco-political system and reflects the downside of alienation on a personal level.
