I paint without forethought, and at best without thinking. I’d like to describe my abstract paintings as expressive non-objective paintings. Just as when I draw the human figure, there is no plan. I just draw what I see, and at best, it’s purely eye-hand coordination; bypassing my brain. I am deeply gratified when someone responds to my painting with exactly what I felt. Once when the subject matter was an the historic narrative, I was stunned the day a young man came looking for me, to hold my hand and with tears in his eyes thanked me for showing how “his people“ have suffered. That encouraged me to keep painting to this day.
