The found objects in this photograph were discarded in a single small homeless encampment in San Rafael, California, in March 2023. My art grows out of my volunteer work with the San Rafael Clean Coalition, which often encounters items discarded by homeless people. It raises deep questions about the relationship between happiness and consumption and the impact of homelessness.
