Beth Davila Waldman is a cross-disciplinary artist using photography, painting, assemblage and installation. Her work explores the impact of socio-political trends through imagery laden with indicators social stress of imposed change in order to re-conceive the notion of sanctuary amidst the realities of our current climate. Part of a larger series investigating the deep south, “Our Flag was Still There” resulted from a 2015 visit to the heartfelt memorial on the sidewalk outside the Emmanuel Church that extended up and down the block in Charleston resulting from the shooting and murder of 9 black church goers. This work searches for a reckoning.
