This drawing is from a series of works that combine autobiographical references into abstract all-over composition. Teenage obsessions from the early '90s, such as new-wave and synth-pop song lyrics and the pixelated look of early computer graphics, meet childhood influences, like traditional decorative patterns of Ukrainian folk art in methodical geometric abstraction. The image is built by translating each letter of a song remembered by heart into a precisely executed colored pencil abstract composition in the process of deep reflection on the meanings embedded in both popular and traditional ethnic cultures.
