The Way We Lived
Artist Statement
Part of a multi-modal Anthropological research project for an undergraduate research project, this narrative-based ethnographic film explores California Indian Identity through the view of my grandmother, Gloria Armstrong, an artist, poet and owner of the last remaining acre of the historic Graton Rancheria, located in Sebastopol, California. This film highlights a part of history settler-colonial society would prefer to ignore. By looking at how connection to land strengthens our Indigeneity in spite of the fracturing of continued colonization.
