Artist Statement
My name is Ashlie Kègo. I am Nigerian-American and I starting painting during the pandemic. I enjoy creating artwork that represents my culture. I paint African masks using prints, patterns and symbols in hope of being able to remind the observer where they are from. “Yakubu” is my very first piece that I created on canvas. It represents Royalty, Nobility and Resilience.
