Sudie Akossiwa Wentling is a Togolese-American artist based in Oakland, California. While growing up in a U.S. Foreign Service family stationed in West Africa, Sudie became accustomed to living in varied environments for short periods of time and developed a heightened sense of awareness of the different cultures and landscapes she inhabited. These formative experiences led her to become an architect and communication designer, exploring how society shapes spaces and visual language in response to external forces. This photo, taken in Chicago, is one of a series that captures her explorative journey driving across the USA.
