Artist Statement
My "Variations on a Theme No. 43" painting was inspired by my "Variations on a Theme No. 23" wave painting where I took two images of it and placed them in different directions. I am fascinated by the wide variety of geometric shapes and fun optical movement in combining these images. I mixed the colors of the two overlapping paintings to get the rich terracottas, burnt oranges, mauves, grayed lavenders and blues and greens. I also added brighter color combinations to balance the neutral colors. I call my paintings "chromesthetic geometrics" because they are created in accompaniment to music where both together react directly upon the emotions, where there is a blending of the senses.
