During a trip to the Turks and Caicos Islands, I was observing the landscape and thinking about how I’d paint it, and there came a compulsion to reduce the scene to its component colors, which I kept iterating on in my mind. I decided to paint the landscape as simply as possible, challenging myself to capture the time of day and sense of place using only the color relationships and a minimum of description in order to reflect this experience of looking.
