Liminality, Banality and Non-Places: Bus Stops in San Francisco During the Pandemic
Artist Statement
This film is a small part of a larger project, my effort to create a documentation of the liminal experience of San Francisco during the Covid-19 pandemic. Rooted in observational filmmaking and embracing the tenets of slow film this particular piece is inspired by anthropologist Marc Augé’s idea of transitory non-places, in this case - bus stops. The pace, a divergence from contemporary cinematic norms, encourages contemplation of the ordinary as it happened during an extraordinary time.
