Artist Statement
This illustration of Cryptomeria japonica, Japanese cedar, originated in a bonsai drawing class after the CA wildfires. A fellow botanical artist lost all of her original artwork in a wildfire and I created this piece in her honor. I imagine her finding this tiny tenacious tree in the ashes. The title, "Singed by Wildfire," illustrates hope for survivors.
