Valley passage is inspired by my fascination with the austere landscapes of the Tibetan Plateau and the pastoral communities that have carved their artistic traditions from its environment. It is woven using the "slingshot weaving technique," a practice I learned from Tibetan pastoralists. Tibetans weave small but highly intricate slingshots to herd their animals using yak fiber and short sticks as a loom. Moved by this weaving tradition, I’ve enlarged it to huge proportions and incorporated a wooden loom structure—in place of the set of small sticks that would normally be removed after weaving—as part of the final piece.
