Artist Statement
Two things came to mind while watching the Paul Newman documentary - The Last Movie Stars. The first was that I hadn't painted in a month. The second was that I wished I could have hung out with Paul Newman. I admire him in many ways as an actor, artist, and entrepreneur myself and consider him one of the greats that I would have loved to have met. As I was thinking these two things, I got a notification on Instagram from a follower of my art who asked if I'd ever done a self portrait (I hadn't). So in that moment I thought, well, Paul is no longer with us but I can find a photo of him I like, edit myself into it, and create my own memory in a painting (and do my first self-portrait).
